DISB, as part of its fiduciary responsibility to maintain a fair and equitable financial marketplace for the District, is required by law to conduct periodic examinations of licensed entities. The examinations may be conducted by DISB only or in collaboration with another regulatory agency (e.g. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, North American Securities Administrators Association, etc.) In general, there are two types of examinations: financial and market conduct.
Not all of the department’s examination reports are available for public viewing. Final examination reports for insurance companies and captive insurers are posted beginning with those adopted as final on or after October 1, 2005. Reports adopted prior to October 1, 2005, must be requested from the FOIA Officer.
