Financial Literacy Month

April 2024

Whereas, attaining financial literacy and maintaining smart financial habits are vital to helping District of Columbia residents achieve their financial goals and improve their quality of life; and 

Whereas, advances in consumer education produce greater fiscal responsibility, promote financial stability, and enhance consumer protection against fraud, predatory lending, and other unethical practices; and 

Whereas, under the theme, "Inform, Inspire, Ignite," this year's Financial Literacy Month seeks to spread the message that financial empowerment begins with learning; and

Whereas, the District's vision for financial empowerment and prosperity for all includes a full range of money management learning opportunities in budget planning, purchasing a home, wealth building, and planning for retirement; and 

Whereas, the DC Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking, other DC agencies, and partner organizations' offer Washingtonians a fair shot at improving financial literacy, building wealth, reducing debt, and guarding against financial fraud: 

Now, Therefore, I, The Mayor of Washington, DC, do hereby proclaim April 2024 as "FINANCIAL LITERACY MONTH" in Washington, DC.
