Free Financial Planning Day to Benefit District of Columbia Residents

Wednesday, October 14, 2015
DISB is co-hosting the sixth annual Financial Planning Day Oct. 17, featuring dozens of financial planning professionals offering free, unbiased financial advice for District residents.

 The District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB) invites D.C. residents to come to the sixth annual Metro Washington Financial Planning Day for free financial counseling and personal finance workshops this Saturday, Oct. 17.

“Personal financial planning is vital to building wealth and creating financial stability, but it can also be intimidating and seem out of reach for some of our residents,” said Acting Commissioner Stephen C. Taylor. “This free event is designed to equip residents with the professional resources for long-term financial well-being for themselves and their families.”

Local CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals (CFP® professionals) will volunteer their time to meet with individuals one-on-one to address a wide range of personal finance questions including retirement planning, getting out of debt, investment strategies, income taxes, insurance, estate planning, budgeting and more.

The event will also feature a series of classroom-style educational workshops presented by top financial planners including:

  • Financial Planning for Women;
  • Real World Retirement Planning;
  • Investing Basics: Be a Smart Investor; and
  • Young Professionals: Launching Your Financial Plan.

Metro Washington Financial Planning Day is organized locally by the District of Columbia’s Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking in partnership with the Financial Planning Association of the National Capital Area and AARP DC. The event is part of the national Financial Planning Days initiative created by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Financial Planning Association®, Foundation for Financial Planning and the US Conference of Mayors. The initiative aims to unite the collective resources of the financial planning community and city governments nationwide to assist Americans in need of financial guidance. The information provided at the event is free, and there will be no sale of products or services or follow up.

To Participate: Metro Washington Financial Planning Day is free and open to the public. Members of the news media are invited to attend the event and interview the organizers. The event is Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Columbia Heights Educational Campus located at 3101 16th Street, NW in Washington, DC. Events will begin at 11 am and will run until 4 pm. The venue is conveniently located just one block from the Columbia Heights Metro Station.
