DISB Guides Help Consumers Compare Prescription Costs and Understand Benefits

PillsDISB “Rx Review Guides” create transparency for out-of-pocket drug costs for plans sold on DC Health Link

The District of Columbia Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB) published guides to help consumers compare the out-of-pocket costs for commonly prescribed drugs for the health conditions listed below.

Insurance companies divide prescription drugs into tiers based on varying levels of cost and each insurance company uses different language to explain its drug tiering. The guides provide a reference consumers can use alongside the health plan's Summary of Benefits and Coverage to compare out-of-pocket prescription costs.

“If you or a family member covered under your health plan has one of these health conditions, knowing the cost of medications can help you make a more informed decision during plan selection,” said Commissioner Stephen C. Taylor. “Our new guides help create transparency in the marketplace by allowing consumers to compare out-of-pocket prescription expenses.”
