Tiffanie Emir Seward of the District pleaded guilty to misdemeanor fraud and a Superior Court judge sentenced her 75 days in jail, suspended; five years’ probation; and ordered her to pay restitution of almost $9,000.
Ms. Seward’s father received $257.50 a week from a workers compensation claim from 1980 until 1984, when he died. His wife collected the money as a death benefit until she died in 2010. At that point, the couple’s daughter, Tiffanie, continued to collect the benefits illegally until 2011.
The Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking and the Metropolitan Police Department investigated the case.
