Chartered Health Plan’s Rehabilitator Seeks $17 Million in a Complaint

(Washington, DC) The rehabilitator of DC Chartered Health Plan Inc. today filed a complaint in Superior Court against DC Healthcare Systems Inc. and its sole shareholder, Jeffrey Thompson, seeking judgment for damages of approximately $17 million.

Commissioner of the Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking William P. White, Chartered’s court-appointed rehabilitator, stated:  “This action seeks to recover moneys due Chartered from its parent company and Jeffrey Thompson. It is the statutory responsibility of the rehabilitator to pursue and recover all assets that may be available to pay Chartered’s providers and other creditors.

“The transition of Chartered’s enrollees, employees and provider network to AmeriHealth District of Columbia was a very important part of Chartered’s reorganization plan. This new action begins a new phase focused on asset recoveries to meet Chartered’s obligations to District medical providers and other creditors.”

For a copy of the complaint, contact Michael Flagg of the Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking at (202) 442-7756 or by email at michael.flagg@dc.gov.
