DISB Offers Tips to Consumers Considering Flood Insurance for the 2006 Hurricane Season (cont.)

"With these tips in mind, it is very important to plan ahead for this season," Hampton added. "Even though flood insurance may be purchased throughout the year, the policy will not go into effect until 30 days after you buy it."

Consumers can buy NFIP flood insurance directly from their property and casualty insurance agent or insurance company if their community participates in the NFIP. To find out if your community participates, visit the NFIP website.

The association's objective is to assist state insurance regulators in protecting consumers and helping maintain the financial stability of the insurance industry by offering financial, actuarial, legal, computer, research, market conduct and economic expertise. Formed in 1871, it is the oldest association of state officials. For more information, visit the NAIC website.
